SPRING 2026 FAQs
Registration
What is my player’s “league age” and why does it matter?
The Little League Baseball Age Chart defines league age as a child’s age on August 31 for the 2026 Spring season. Players are placed in LYB divisions based on their league age.
Tee Ball: ages 4-6, typically pre-k to 1st grade
Minors A (Coach Pitch): ages 5-6, typically 1st grade
Minors AA: ages 7-8, typically 2nd grade
Minors AAA: ages 9-10, typically 3rd and 4th grade
Majors: Ages 11-12, typically 5th and 6th grade
There is overlap in the Tee Ball and Minors - A (Coach Pitch) league age so that first time players typically play one season of Tee Ball before advancing to the next division.
Why does the registration system ask for residency and school enrollment forms?
LYB players with a league age 8 and above must reside in or attend school in the LYB Little League boundary. Residency and school enrollment forms are NOT required to upload during registration. However, LYB will contact players who may require these forms, due to their address and/or school enrollment, as well as from all players selected to the AAA and Majors All Stars teams.
Players with a league age of 7 and below may register for any Little League program they choose.
Can my daughter play baseball?
Can I register my player after registration closes?
Registration closes on February 28 for AAA and Majors and March 8 for Tee Ball, Minors A (Coach Pitch), and Minors AA. After these dates, LYB cannot commit to placing late registrants on teams. Email [email protected] to inquire about openings.
Can my player be assigned to the same team as a friend and request a specific coach?
The Tee Ball, Minors A (Coach Pitch), and Minors AA team formation process honors as many friend and coach requests as possible. It is very important to make these requests during registration. If you make several requests, we may only be able to honor one or two. Once rosters are released, LYB cannot commit to roster changes.
Once your player enters the upper divisions of Minors AAA and Majors, we can no longer honor requests for coaches or friends in the team formation process. Teams are drafted based on a skills evaluation to build rosters with equal skill sets and adequate pitching/catching to promote growth of the entire program and the individual players. Priority shifts from keeping friends together towards building better baseball players.
Are playerships available?
What is the volunteer buyout?
LYB is run by volunteers - from the coaches, to those who take care of our fields, to the Board of Directors. We rely on support from volunteers for the season’s operations, and we consistently hear our volunteers tell us that they get more than they give, whenever they pitch in. We also understand that many families are busy and may not be able to share time beyond getting their players to practice and games. The volunteer buyout is $75 for anyone unable to volunteer.
What if my player has played little or no baseball before?
What if my player wants to play in a division above his or her league age?
LYB wants athletes to play in the division where they will develop their skills and play with similarly skilled players. If a player wants to be considered for playing “up” in the Minors AAA or Majors division, they must attend player evaluations to be assessed by those coaches. Contact [email protected] for more information.
Does LYB have a refund policy?
Yes. The following refund policy takes into consideration that circumstances may arise after registration that affect a player’s ability to finish a full season. LYB may approve or deny refunds outside of this policy in extraordinary situations, for example, in the case of medical or family relocation reasons.
Full Refund: A full refund, less a $15 administrative processing fee, will be applied to requests received prior to team announcements or player evaluations (whichever comes first).
Partial Refund: A 50% refund will be applied to requests received after team announcements/evaluations and before the first scheduled practice or game.
No refund: No refunds will be issued after a player participates in a scheduled practice or game.
Getting Ready for the Season
What gear and equipment does LYB supply?
LYB will provide your player with a new hat, uniform, and socks. All teams are equipped with appropriately sized batting helmets, bats, and catching gear.
What equipment should I get for my player?
Players provide their own pants, red belt, glove, and molded (not metal) cleats. Players may optionally bring their own helmet and bat. Your coach will instruct you whether to buy white or gray pants. If you are unable to purchase a glove for your child, let the coach know. There are often limited supplies of lost gloves from prior seasons that are available for loan.
Boys should wear an athletic supporter or compression shorts. If your son is a catcher, it is mandatory to wear a protection cup.
Learn more about Little League bat requirements if you supply your own.

Season Schedule
When will team rosters and practice and game schedules be available?
Team rosters and practice schedules will be announced mid March. Rosters and schedules are not finalized until we have a full coaching staff and know how many teams will form. Once rosters are set, coaches select their practice days and locations.
The game schedule will be announced at the end of March or early April. Games run from Opening Day on April 11 through May 30.
An intra-LYB tournament for the Minors AAA and Majors divisions will be held the first week in June.
How often are practices and games?
What time are weeknight games?
Where are practices and games?
All divisions practice on fields located within the LYB Little League boundary: West Sylvan, Robert Gray, Bridlemile, Wallace Park, Portland Heights, and Skyline.
Tee Ball and Minors A (Coach Pitch) teams play games on fields within the LYB Little League boundary.
Minors AA, Minors AAA, and Majors teams play games with other teams in Oregon’s Little League District 4, including SW Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Wilsonville, and Lake Oswego. These games are generally on the weekends.
For the 2026 season, the Majors division will play one Saturday game against District 4’s Tillamook Little League in early May. Tillamook teams routinely travel to our fields during the season and it’s our turn to go their way.
What community events are part of the season?
April 11: Opening Day, Opening Ceremony, and Team Pictures for all divisions at Lincoln High School (9:00 am - 12:30 pm)
May 16: Hit-A-Thon for all divisions at Robert Gray (tentatively 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm)
June 7: Closing Ceremony for all divisions at Robert Gray (tentatively 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm)
In addition, LYB attends a Lincoln High School team game to cheer on the big Cards and a Youth Sports Weekend Hops game.
AAA and Majors Evaluations and Draft
When and where are evaluations?
Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm (specific times TBD) at the Lincoln High School field. Players MUST attend only one of these sessions. If you cannot attend either date, contact [email protected] right away.
What should my player bring to evaluations?
Your player should dress warmly in layers, as a portion of the evaluation will be held indoors. Wear gym shoes and do not wear cleats.
LYB verifies proof of age, in compliance with Little League requirements. Players enrolled in the AAA or Majors division for the first time must bring a birth certificate to evaluations. Players who provided their birth certificate for the 2025 season will not be required to bring this documentation again. For questions about whether this requirement applies to you, email [email protected].
Why are evaluations held?
Evaluations are held for players in the Minors AAA and Majors divisions. LYB builds AAA and Majors teams with as close to equal skill sets as possible through a draft process following the evaluation. If the draft is conducted correctly every team should experience wins and losses throughout the regular season.
At evaluations, players will warm-up and work through a set of drills that allow coaches and LYB Board Members to evaluate their throwing, hitting, running, pitching, and catching in a casual environment that resembles a baseball practice.
Are there cuts?
How does the draft work?
After the evaluations, coaches in the Minors AAA and Majors divisions will meet with the Player Agent and LYB Board Members to conduct the draft. Coaches will select players one at a time until all players are rostered. The draft process is designed to ensure all teams have adequate pitching and catching. Siblings are always kept together. Once teams are posted, LYB will not make any further roster changes to preserve parity across teams.
Teams are formed following an evaluation of all players and process to develop teams with parity across teams. This process is conducted by LYB coaches and the LYB Player Agent.
