MINORS A BALL (COACH PITCH)
Ages 5-6: Typically 1st Grade
LYB Little League offers a Coach Pitch program for players that have a good grasp of most or all Tee Ball skills and are ready to develop further.
Skills Covered
Coach Pitch players learn additional basics during their season:
- How to see the ball out of a pitcher's (coach's) hand and hit the ball on a regular basis
- Understand how outs are made, including ground outs, force outs, tag outs, and fly outs
- Understand that when they are out they must sit on the bench with their teammates
- Catchers should have a general idea of where to squat and be able to catch the ball and throw it back to the pitcher in a timely manner
Practices are typically twice a week to start. Practice days and times are established by each coach. Once games begin, coaches often have one practice per week. Games are typically played twice per week. Teams play a midweek game and a Saturday game against either other Lincoln teams or other LL teams in nearby boundaries.
Equipment Needed
Each player should provide their own glove, batting helmet, and bat. Bats must follow the USABat standard - bats cannot be more than 33 inches in length and no more than 2 and 5/8 inches in diameter; wooden bats cannot be less than 15/16 inches in diameter (7/8 inches for bats less than 30 inches in length) at its smallest part. Wood bats taped or fitted with a sleeve may not exceed 16 inches from the small end. Please note that solid one-piece wood barrel bats do not require a USA Baseball logo. Approved Tee Ball bats may be used only with the use of approved Tee Balls.
